SCOTTISH JEWISH YOUTH ALLIANCE
The Scottish Jewish Youth Alliance (SJYA)
SJYA is a project of Glasgow Maccabi, and supported by UJIA launched in January 2024. The SJYA has taken over the remit of youth education and engagement from UJIA, and are now responsible for helping young people, Nursery – S6 across Scotland to build a strong Jewish identity through informal Jewish educational content and programming.
The aim of the SJYA is to contribute to the development of young Jewish people through a broad range of sporting, educational, social, as well as health and wellbeing activities, whilst promoting Jewish identity and the centrality of Israel, and so create a new generation of confident Jewish leaders.
We do this through our many programmes, including:
- Youth Lounge (S1 – S4)
- Lunch Club at Mearns Castle High School
- The Matana Club (Nursery – P7)
- Sports Clubs
- Bnei Mitzvah Programmes
- Leadership Training and Opportunities
- Summer Scheme
- Access to Youth Movement Experiences
The SJYA also facilitates the monthly Jewish Educators Collab group which meets online to discuss programming, explore solutions to problems, and acts as a mechanism for clear cross-communal communication.
The SJYA is run by the Director, Shayna Conn, and is staffed with a variety of sessional staff, many of whom are University-aged students who have grown up in the community, all of whom care a great deal about our young people.
