The Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCoJeC) has been renamed as the Jewish Council of Scotland (JCoS) and has adopted a new constitution. The SCIO (charity registration) number remains the same. This is part of a restructuring, and sees the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council become a standing committee for Glasgow, and the formation of a new Edinburgh Jewish Organisations Group as a standing committee for Edinburgh. All the previous geographical communities continue to be part of the Council, along with an increased number of Scotland-wide Jewish organisations.
The Jewish Council of Scotland is the representative body of all the Jewish Communities in Scotland. It advances public understanding about Judaism and the Jewish community, works with other organisations to promote good community relations and equality, represents the Jewish community in Scotland to government, other statutory and official bodies, MSPs, and others on matters affecting the Jewish community, and provides advice and assistance with regulatory requirements to all of Scotland’s Jewish communities. It also publishes a quarterly newsletter, Four Corners, primarily aimed at the smaller Scottish Jewish communities and Jewish people who live outside the main communities, and supports them by facilitating social and educational events.
In case of emergency, for example with regard to reducing delays to burials, we can also be contacted by phone out of hours (not Shabbat).
