After a career as a trade union official, David Bleiman started writing poetry in his sixties. THE TREBBLER’S TALE, written in the part-excavated, largely reimagined dialect of Scots- Yiddish, won him the Sangschaw Prize for Scots poetry in 2020. David’s first pamphlet, THIS KILT OF MANY COLOURS, 2021, is a multilingual exploration of Jewish history and heritage in English, Scots, Spanish and a little Yiddish. GATHERING LIGHT: A CRAMOND CAUSEWAY, 2022, views the world and the stars from David’s Edinburgh estuarine suburb at the edge of the city and enjoying its own tidal island.
Widely published, locally and nationally, David was in 2022 admitted to the Scottish Poetry Library’s Online Guide to Scottish Poets, for his “contribution to Scots poetry infused with the mixter-maxter [mish-mosh] languages of communities who have made Scotland their home.”
Those attending the event will be sent a discount code for THIS KILT OF MANY COLOURS.
