#MeToo: Sexual Assault in the Tanach
Sarah Bronzite
In October 2017, one simple hashtag revealed unimaginable levels of sexual harassment and assault. And yet … it’s always been there. In this session we will catalogue and discuss narratives of biblical sexual assault in Tanach. Using these and a few contemporary examples, we will consider why victims don’t speak up, challenge thinking that says most sexual harassment/assault is ‘not serious’, and see what our community can do to address the problem. Everyone welcome.
Originally a social researcher, Sarah is now a primary school teacher in Aberdeen. She has combined her love of research and education in a recent research project which aims to show how UK school-based sex education can help to reduce sexual violence. She also writes about childfree women, and gender-based violence. She has been involved in helping to address issues of sexual harassment in Jewish communal workplaces.
