The Fascinating History of the Pesach Haggadah – Dr Adam S Cohen
This interactive lecture “Signs and Wonders: The Fascinating History of the Illustrated Haggadah” presents the rich history of the illustrated haggadah from its beginnings in the Middle Ages to the present, considering the historical, legal, social, and political aspects of its images. It not only provides an introduction to the fascinating history of the decorated haggadah but also offers suggestions for how to incorporate this visual material into the seder itself. Participants are invited to bring their own favourite illustrated haggadot for a “Haggadah Road Show” component to the presentation.
Dr. Adam S. Cohen is Associate Professor in the Department of the History of Art at the University of Toronto, where he has served as assistant director of the university’s Centre for Jewish Studies and has introduced courses on Jewish art.
