The Scottish Council of Jewish Communities (SCoJeC), in partnership with the Glasgow Representative Council, are hosting an evening of klezmer and storytelling at Newton Mearns Hebrew Congregation Communal Hall, on Monday 30 October, from 7pm.
In a setting of life-affirming Jewish klezmer music, Klezmerduo, one of the first Danish groups to kick-start the revival of Jewish music in Denmark more than 25 years ago, tell the story of Danish Jews, on their escape to Sweden; smuggled at night, and hidden in fishing boats and small ships, over 7,000 Danish Jews were rescued by courageous Danes who risked their lives, as part of one of the most successful actions against Nazi Germany’s extermination of the Jewish people.
Does your family have a link to this unforgettable event? SCoJeC would love to hear from you and to share your story as part of this event.
The concert is part of the Scottish International Storytelling Festival programme and has been generously supported by the Festival. It also forms part of the Bicentenary of Jewish Communities in Scotland programme.
