Edinburgh Jewish Literary Society
EDINBURGH JEWISH LITERARY SOCIETY
The Edinburgh Jewish Literary Society was founded in 1888 with the purpose of bringing British culture to the Jewish immigrant population of Edinburgh. In the over 130 years since then it has broadened its aims and become a discussion forum for a wide variety of topics covering every area of culture and history with a Jewish connection.
The ‘Lit’ meets 10-12 times per year, mainly in the winter and spring months. Most meetings are in person but since Covid, some are also online and frequently recorded. By the end of summer, the following year’s full programme may be found on www.ejls.org, as well as those meetings recorded. Interested persons may register to join the electronic mailing list and take out membership by contacting the ‘Lit’ at eljsoc@gmail.com. Annual membership for the 2025-6 session is £20 per person, with a reduction to £5 for full time students. Entrance to individual meetings is £10, or £2 for full time students.
