In 2022, Zev Robinson started working on Distant Trains – https://distanttrains.com/, an ongoing video and art project about his family’s history beginning with his paternal great-grandfather who, after many stops and (mis)adventures along the way, left Ukraine in the late 19th century to end up an Orthodox rabbi and alleged bootlegger in San Francisco.
After October 7, however, Robinson switched his focus to his mother’s family that fled antisemitism in Poland to emigrate to Palestine/Israel in the early 1930s.
