Jewish Care Scotland volunteer Laura Harrison and her husband Derek are very kindly opening Kamares, their beautiful garden in Newton Mearns, through Scotland’s Gardens to raise funds for Jewish Care Scotland.
Sitting in ⅔ of an acre, Kamares is a hacienda-style house surrounded on all sides by matures trees and a lovely beech hedge. The garden has much of interest for the visitor, including a well-established pond, a collection of acers, well-established and colourful mixed shrub and herbaceous borders, rare US sequoias and a living sculptural arbour. There are also several patio gardens, including a delightful courtyard with rockery. There are many sculptures and other artworks in the garden, particularly some fun topiary and cloud pruned pines. Laura uses the garden as an alternative canvas, as well as drawing inspiration from it for her beautiful still life paintings.
