75 Years of Dee Street – the history of the Aberdeen Jewish Community with Professor Nathan Abrams

28th April 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

SCoJeC is delighted to host a series of three Author Talks to help to raise money for the Aberdeen Synagogue Roof Appeal. The events are free but we welcome donations. To book your place and make your donation: trybooking.co.uk/RMY

This year SCoJeC is supporting Aberdeen Synagogue. When the builders were doing a minor repair to a chimney in the Synagogue’s Dee Street premises they found that the whole roof was full of rot and woodworm, and needed to be replaced at the cost of £45,000. The Aberdeen Community have managed to cover £30,000 of this amount, but in this very difficult time still have to raise £15,000 over the next year. We are very happy to announce a series of three talks starting on Tuesday 28th April, along with a Klezmer Kabaret later in the year, to help to raise money for this beautiful synagogue – featuring historian Professor Nathan Abrams on the history of the Aberdeen Jewish community, writer Ethel Hofman, author of ‘Mackerel at Midnight: Growing up Jewish in the Shetland Isles’, and author J David Simons in conversation with Fiona Frank about his Scottish Jewish book series.
