DESCRIPTION:Edinburgh Jewish Cultural Centre presents –\nRabbi Mark Solomon in conversation with writer/director David Ian Neville\n \nEvent description:  \nRabbi Mark L. Solomon was born and brought up in Sydney\, Australia. He studied for the rabbinate at the Lubavitcher Yeshivah Gedolah in Melbourne and Kfar Chabad in Israel\, then earned a BA (Hons) in English from Sydney University. He came to Britain in 1988 to study at Jews’ College\, London\, the Modern Orthodox seminary where he was ordained in 1991. Having left Orthodoxy\, come out publicly as gay\, and joined Liberal Judaism\, he completed an MA in Jewish Studies at Leo Baeck College\, where he has taught since 1991\, and is currently Senior Lecturer in Talmud\, Rabbinics\, Jewish philosophy and Kabbalah. \nHe began regular visits to Sukkat Shalom\, the Edinburgh Liberal Jewish Community\, in 2005\, and was appointed permanent part-time rabbi there in 2009. Since 2014 he has also been part-time Rabbi of the Leicester Liberal Jewish Congregation. He is Chair of the Beit Din of Liberal Judaism. \nWith a deep commitment to interfaith dialogue\, Rabbi Solomon is Interfaith Consultant for Liberal Judaism and holds positions in several interfaith organisations. \nRabbi Solomon has a deep love of synagogue music and biblical cantillation and\, in addition to leading services\, gives concerts illustrating the different styles of Jewish music. He enjoys singing Gilbert and Sullivan and Yiddish songs\, and has built up a repertoire of Burns songs to sing at Burns Night suppers in Edinburgh. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you on behalf of the Edinburgh Interfaith Association\, Holocaust Memorial Day Trust and the Scottish Government to register for the official National Holocaust Memorial Day Online Event for Scotland on the 27th of January. \nYou are invited to register to view the online programme which will be available from 10am on the 27th of January 2023 on the Edinburgh Interfaith Youtube Channel. Shortly after you register the link will be emailed to you where you can access the programme. \nIn the programme we pay our respects to those who lost their lives in the Holocaust and subsequent genocides and attempt to learn the lessons from humanity’s dark past. The programme will include contributions from Holocaust survivor Henry Wuga\, Bosnian genocide survivor Sabina Kadic-Mackenzie\, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon\, Christina McKelvie Minister for Equalities and Older People\, and students from Graeme High School’s\, ‘Mentoring in Violence Prevention’ programme. \nReserve a place here.

DESCRIPTION:The Scottish Jewish Archives Centre presents our next speaker on Sunday 28th February 2021 at 8pm GMT on Zoom\, live from New York city\nJeremy Rosen will speak about his memories of Glasgow\nHe was born in Manchester in 1942 and moved with his family to Glasgow in 1943 when his father Kopul Rosen became the Communal Rabbi. After an education in Cambridge and Jerusalem\, he became the Rabbi of Giffnock & Newlands Synagogue in 1968\, where he spent three very happy and formative years. He left Glasgow reluctantly to become headmaster of Carmel College\, before moving to the Western Synagogue in London. He became the professor of the Faculty for Comparative Religion in Belgium and then moved to New York\, where he is now\, the Rabbi of the small Persian Community in Manhattan.
