DESCRIPTION:EHC Community Centre Committee \nCOFFEE MORNING & TALK \nPlease come along to enjoy a pleasant Sunday morning with friends\, and admire the GOLDEN THREADS REAWAKENED tapestry\, \nwhich is to be displayed in our Community Centre. \n Before our regular cake auction takes place\, we will hear the remarkable story of Hedwig’s Golden Threads\, \nwhich inspired the tapestry’s creation. \nHedwig Philip was a German Jew who escaped the Holocaust with her husband in 1941 and settled in Pennsylvania. \nThe golden threads she collected to embroider a Torah mantle there were brought in a box to Newcastle in 1951\, and lay unopened for 70 years\, until they were rediscovered by her granddaughter Cathie Wright in 2021. These historic golden threads were used to weave the 16 modern secular panels that form the tapestry\, joined together by gold braid from Hedwig’s box. \n  \nCoffee\, tea and sandwiches will be served. Home baked goods are needed for the Cake Auction. \nPlease bring along any items wrapped and labelled Parev or Dairy. \nMinimum donation £7.50

SUMMARY:Edinburgh Jewish Cultural Centre - Lee Wax\, Jewish Women's Aid 7.30 pm - In person and online
DESCRIPTION:Domestic abuse thrives on closed doors\, secrecy and isolation\, and the COVID pandemic has created conditions that can put women at much greater risk. This session will show a snapshot of domestic abuse in the Jewish community\, show you what might be happening behind closed doors under normal circumstances\, how COVID is making that so much worse\, what clues you might get that it’s happening and what Jewish Women’s Aid does in the community for women survivors of domestic and sexual violence. It will also look at what you can do to help women access the support they need. \nLee Wax is currently Training Coordinator at Jewish Women’s Aid\, having worked for JWA for 10 years in a variety of roles. She gives talks in the Jewish community\, and trains Rabbis and other communal professionals in how best to support women survivors of domestic and sexual violence. When not at JWA\, she is a freelance rabbi\, educator\, and trainer. She lives in London. \nIn person tickets £10. This includes a £5 donation to Jewish Women’s Aid.\nOnline tickets £5. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a conversation with Dalia Fleming\, Executive Director of KeshetUK. KeshetUK is the only education and training charity working in the UK to ensure a world where no one is forced to choose between their LGBT+ (Lesbian\, Gay\, Bisexual and Transgender) and Jewish identity. Dalia will talk about how KeshetUK works across the community (Orthodox\, Reform\, Liberal\, Masorti and Cross Communal organisations) and be taking questions from our chair and the audience.\n****\nDalia is an experienced trainer\, facilitator\, and programme manager\, drawing upon a strong volunteer and local government background. Her work often reaches those who have not traditionally considered or engaged with LGBT+ inclusion. In her role as KeshetUK’s first Executive Director\, she works to build constructive\, supportive relationships with organisations across all Jewish denominations\, understanding that each group comes from a different starting point. \nIn person tickets £10.
