SUMMARY:Scottish Jewish Archives Speaker Event: Phil Alexander
DESCRIPTION:Phil is a British Academy Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow\, where he looks at historical Jewish-Scottish musical encounters. He has published articles on Glaswegian cantors\, memorial silence in Berlin and salsa in Scotland\, and his monograph exploring the diversity and complexity of Berlin’s contemporary klezmer and Yiddish music scene will be published by Oxford University Press in October 2020. He is also a busy musician\, leading the acclaimed band Moishe’s Bagel and performing regularly with many of the UK’s finest folk and jazz musicians. For this event\, Phil will talk about klezmer music history and its more recent revival in Europe. The talk will also include musical examples

DESCRIPTION:Scottish Jewish Archives Centre Speaker Event\nAs part of our successful speaker events we are delighted to welcome solicitor and Burness Paull chairman Phillip Rodney.\n \nDoors open at 12 \, event starts at 12.30 \nPhilip Rodney is the next speaker at the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre event. \nPhilip has recently retired from his post as Chairman and partner in the dispute resolution division at Burness Paull where he served from 2005 to 2018\, transforming the firm from its mid-market position to leader in the Scottish market with an international footprint. \nPhilip previously served as the Chair of Glasgow School of Art\, as a governor for Hutchesons’ Educational Trust (Hutchesons’ Grammar School) and a volunteer paired reader at Anderston Primary School. \nHe is currently the Chair of IBA Senior Lawyers Committee\, on the Board of the Change Centre Scotland and a Trustee of Alexander Stone Foundation. \nHe is an established author and regularly writes on legal and management topics for The Scotsman\, Sunday Herald and The Lawyer. \n  \nNOT TO BE MISSED \nTickets are available from Viv Mann (email: vymann@gmail.com) or the Scottish Jewish Archives Centre \nTickets £17.50 or £15 for Friends of the Archives.
