SUMMARY:UK JF in Glasgow - Eva Hesse - 7.30pm
DESCRIPTION:The life of pioneering Jewish American artist Eva Hesse was short and in many ways tragic: fleeing Nazi Germany\, enduring her parents’ separation and mother’s suicide\, surviving a turbulent relationship and falling ill in her early 30s. In the face of all her trouble\, Hesse found solace in her art\, creating distinctive pieces of work that propelled her to the forefront of the New York art world. Although her career spanned only a decade\, her work lives on\, and is celebrated today as ever before. Eva Hesse is the story of an exceptional artist\, and an equally exceptional era\, one that has changed the art world forever. \n  \n+ £1 booking fee go to http://cca-glasgow.com/programme/ukjf-eva-hesse

SUMMARY:UK Jewish Film in Glasgow - Keep Quiet - 2.45pm
DESCRIPTION:“The film raises more troubling questions than it answers\, but it’s fascinating throughout …” The Hollywood Reporter \nKeep Quiet is the remarkable story of Hungarian politician Csanád Szegedi\, who – as a vocal antisemite and Holocaust denier – came up through the ranks to become vice-President of Jobbik\, Hungary’s far-right party. When he discovers that he is in fact Jewish and that his beloved grandmother survived Auschwitz\, he goes on an astonishing journey that takes him from the dark depths of hatred to repentance\, self-acceptance and reconciliation. But is his transformation truly sincere or merely an act of a man looking for a new self? \nNominated for Best International Film\, DocAviv Film Festival\nNominated Best Documentary Jury Award\, Tribeca Film Festival

SUMMARY:UK Jewish Film in Glasgow - Grain of Truth - 2.45pm
DESCRIPTION:Grain of Truth \n\n\n\n\n  \n \nIn this dark and menacing thriller a high-flying Warsaw prosecutor is brought in to investigate a young woman’s strange murder in a small country town. No-nonsense detective Teo uncovers a toxic cocktail of fanatical nationalism and racism bubbling away underneath the surface of this close-knit provincial community. A pacy and engrossing detective story\, which is also a fascinating exploration of the contemporary Polish perception of Jews\, dead and alive\, and the worrying persistence of antisemitic myths in the 21st century. \nFor Tickets (£1 additional booking fee) go to http://www.cca-glasgow.com/programme/uk-jewish-film–a-grain-of-truth

SUMMARY:Scottish premiere of the movie Deli Man - 7pm
DESCRIPTION:Free Screening – tickets have to be booked via 0141-352-4900 \n  \nDeli Man is a documentary film showcasing Jewish food and its inseparable link to American Jewish culture. Once numbering in the thousands\, there are now fewer than two hundred delis across America. \nProduced and directed by Erik Greenberg Anjou\, this is the third work in his trilogy about Jewish culture. The celebrated preceding films are A Cantor’s Tale and The Klezmatics – On Holy Ground. The principal guide of Deli Man is the effusive and charming Ziggy Gruber\, a third-generation delicatessen man\, owner and maven (as well as a Yiddish-speaking French trained chef) who currently operates one of the country’s top delis\, Kenny and Ziggy’s in Houston. Kenny and Ziggy’s has been touted in press reviews ranging from Diners\, Drive-Ins and Dives to the L.A. Daily News. \n“Texas?” you ask. Shalom\, y’all. Because the story of the American deli is the story of Jews – their immigration\, migration\, upward mobility\, and western assimilation. New York may always be the most populous\, celebrated and redolent Jewish node. But substantial and influential Jewish tides also flowed from Chicago to Detroit\, San Francisco to L.A.\, and Galveston to Houston and Dallas. How this burgeoning tribe moved and thrived from city to suburb and from suburb to strip mall\, and in the process created a legacy and new generations of wealth\, is the sunny topside of the Jewish-American journey. The shadowy understory is how that very success engendered the deterioration of the old\, traditional urban block and neighbourhood – the epic synagogues\, Mom and Pop storefronts\, and nucleus of Jewish cultural life at which deli was the succulent heart. \nSupported by The Hugh Fraser Foundation.

SUMMARY:UK Jewish Film in Glasgow - The Green Park - 2pm
DESCRIPTION:The Green Park Hotel opened its doors in 1943 and for over 40 years was a key hub of Anglo Jewish life. It provided kosher food\, British seaside glamour and a place to introduce sons and daughters. \nThis lively and warm-hearted film delves into the Anglo Jewish community\, examining how it developed and flourished in the 20th century. With access to many of the leading lights of the community\, this is a significant exploration of the role that ‘soft power’ spaces like the Green Park have played in creating a vibrant\, integrated and successful life for English Jews. \nPhone the Box Office on 0141 352 4900 or book online at https://ccaglasgow.ticketsolve.com/#/shows/873564953  £1 booking fee.
