SUMMARY:UK Jewish Film in Glasgow - Tel Aviv on Fire - 7.30pm
DESCRIPTION:UK Jewish Film in Glasgow presents \n \nSalam is a production assistant on the set of an Arab speaking soap\, popular in both Israeli and the Palestinian Territories. An unexpected promotion sees him become the show’s main scriptwriter\, despite his apparent lack of experience. Out of his depth\, he strikes an awkward friendship with an Israeli officer at the Ramallah checkpoint whose wife is a huge fan of the show. Together they come up with plots that betray their shared desire to normalise Arab-Jewish relations and earn them brownie points with the women they love. \nIrreverent\, farcical and heartwarming\, Tel Aviv on Fire will make you laugh – and give you hope. \nAdditional £1 booking fee \nTo book go to

SUMMARY:UK Jewish Film in Glasgow - Remembering Baghdad - 7.30pm
DESCRIPTION:12 \n\nSeen as a site of ongoing fighting\, modern-day Baghdad scarcely resembles the city it once was. Remember Baghdad is a fascinating exploration of the rich Jewish life and culture that had flourished in Iraq before the events of the 20th and early 21stcenturies dramatically changed the course of the country – and the fate of its Jews. The film features prominent British-Iraqi Jews\, including David Dangoor. Their life stories are woven into the history of their fellow Iraqi people\, Jews and non-Jews alike. Screened with The Outer Circle (Adam Baroukh\, 2017)\, one of the two 2017 winning Pears Short Film Fund shorts. \n£1 Booking fee – Phone 0141 352 4900 or go to

SUMMARY:UK JF in Glasgow - Eva Hesse - 7.30pm

SUMMARY:Scottish premiere of the movie Deli Man - 7pm
DESCRIPTION:Free Screening – tickets have to be booked via 0141-352-4900 \n  \nDeli Man is a documentary film showcasing Jewish food and its inseparable link to American Jewish culture. Once numbering in the thousands\, there are now fewer than two hundred delis across America. \nProduced and directed by Erik Greenberg Anjou\, this is the third work in his trilogy about Jewish culture. The celebrated preceding films are A Cantor’s Tale and The Klezmatics – On Holy Ground. The principal guide of Deli Man is the effusive and charming Ziggy Gruber\, a third-generation delicatessen man\, owner and maven (as well as a Yiddish-speaking French trained chef) who currently operates one of the country’s top delis\, Kenny and Ziggy’s in Houston. Kenny and Ziggy’s has been touted in press reviews ranging from Diners\, Drive-Ins and Dives to the L.A. Daily News. \n“Texas?” you ask. Shalom\, y’all. Because the story of the American deli is the story of Jews – their immigration\, migration\, upward mobility\, and western assimilation. New York may always be the most populous\, celebrated and redolent Jewish node. But substantial and influential Jewish tides also flowed from Chicago to Detroit\, San Francisco to L.A.\, and Galveston to Houston and Dallas. How this burgeoning tribe moved and thrived from city to suburb and from suburb to strip mall\, and in the process created a legacy and new generations of wealth\, is the sunny topside of the Jewish-American journey. The shadowy understory is how that very success engendered the deterioration of the old\, traditional urban block and neighbourhood – the epic synagogues\, Mom and Pop storefronts\, and nucleus of Jewish cultural life at which deli was the succulent heart. \nSupported by The Hugh Fraser Foundation.

Faultless casting.” – L’Economiste \nThe estranged son of a once famous Moroccan musician is unexpectedly transformed after returning to his homeland\, in the bittersweet crowd-pleaser by writer-director Jérôme Cohen-Olivar. Like many Jews who fled domestic troubles\, Michael Abitbol (Avishay Benazra) left Casablanca as a child during the racial tensions of the Yom Kippur War and never looked back. After years of silence and buried memories\, the brooding son returns home to make peace with his past. With the help of a comical cab driver (Aziz Dadas) and a host of other quirky characters\, he sets off on an adventure to track down the surviving members of his father’s orchestra and fulfill the old man’s dying wish\, finding friendship and rediscovering his cultural roots along the way. \nWinner\, Ecumenical Jury Prize\, Montréal World Film Festival
