DESCRIPTION:As the levels of antisemitism increase in Glasgow and anti-Israel sentiment continues to grow\, mainly due to the numerous hate marches and demonstrations in the city centre\, Glasgow Friends of Israel continues its peace advocacy activities\, in particular at our weekly stall on Buchanan Street \nGFI will be commemorating our 10th anniversary in May this year and to mark this remarkable milestone\, we will be holding a conference at which we will look back over the years with some of our guests and speakers such as David Collier\, the investigative journalist who recently called out the BBC for screening a Gaza documentary narrated by the son of a Hamas official and Simon Barrett\, well known from his TV programme the Middle East Report \nWe will also hear from other guests\, and the complete programme will be shared with you over the next few weeks \nRegistration and tea/coffee will be served from 10:00am. The event will commence at 10:30 and finish at 16.00. \nA buffet lunch consisting of vegetarian soup and sandwiches\, tea and coffee\, will be served \nThere will be a Christian service of worship at 09.30  for those who wish to attend. \nAll ticket prices are subsidised with a standard ticket at £14.50 and an ‘early bird’ ticket available until 25 April at £11.50. DESCRIPTION:Glasgow Friends of Israel invite you to –\nan Evening with Hussein Aboubakr Mansour – the Egyptian Activist who supports Israel\n\nGFI\, in conjunction with StandWithUs UK\, has great pleasure in inviting you to a very special evening with Israel supporter Hussein Aboubakr Mansour. \nHussein was born in 1989 in Cairo\, Egypt. He studied Hebrew at Cairo University but did not adapt to the curriculum which was the official anti-Israel and antisemitic rhetoric of the regime. Hussein was persecuted by the Egyptian State Police for being the first visitor to check out books and watch films at the Israeli Academic Center of Cairo. \nIn 2010 he was surveilled\, harassed and jailed for his studies of Israel. Later that year he was suspected of being a “Zionist agent” and was held in a military detention facility where he was tortured. By 2012 the secret police of the Muslim Brotherhood regime began harassing and persecuting Hussein for his contacts with Israelis and writings expressing hopes for coexistence and peace between the two peoples. \nHe received asylum in the United States in 2014 and worked as an Assistant Professor of Hebrew Studies in the Defense Language Institute. Hussein is the author of Minority of One\, an autobiography about his life in Egypt. He currently works as an Educator for StandWithUs. \nRegistration details to follow

DESCRIPTION:Glasgow Friends of Israel speaker event\nNatasha Hausdorff – Israeli Settlements and International Law\nThe BBC’s stock phrase is “The settlements are considered illegal under international law\, though Israel disputes this.” Natasha will explore the application of public international law to the settlement reality in Israel and around the world\, in order to cut through the misleading headlines. \nNatasha Hausdorff is a barrister at Six Pump Court Chambers in London. During her time studying law at Oxford and Tel Aviv Universities\, she focused on public international law and the law of armed conflict. She continues to lecture on aspects of public international law. Before working as a barrister\, she clerked for the President of the Supreme Court of Israel in Jerusalem and acquired a particular insight into the Israeli Courts’ application of international law.
