SUMMARY:EJCC Live - With Hugo Rifkind in conversation with David Ian Neville via Zoom - 7.30pm
DESCRIPTION:Hugo will be talking about his new novel\, RABBITS\, which has just been published. \nRabbits is the explosive new novel from Times journalist Hugo Rifkind. Tommo has just\nmoved to a prestigious boarding school. A product of the middle class\, and with new-found\nindependence thrust upon him\, he finds himself invited into fading crumbling country houses.\nIt’s the early nineties and the elite he is now surrounded by is struggling for relevance.\nAlienated from the mainstream\, and running low on inherited wealth\, his peers have\nretreated into snobbery and fatalism. In this world\, half remembered traditions mix with\ndecadence and an awful lot of small dead animals. And sometimes\, not just animals. \nHugo Rifkind is a columnist\, critic and leader writer for The Times and a presenter\non Times Radio\, having formerly been a columnist for the Spectator\, GQ and the Herald. He\nis a regular panellist on BBC Radio 4’s comedy show The News\nQuiz\, and an occasional guest on television shows that aren’t supposed to be funny at all.\nHe was born and raised in Edinburgh\, studied in Cambridge\, and now lives in North London\nin a house where everybody else speaks German\, including the dog. \nBook here.

SUMMARY:EJCC Live: Olivia Marks-Woldman - 7.30pm - 9pm via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:The Edinburgh Jewish Cultural Centre Live presents: \nOlivia Marks-Woldman\, OBE \nChief Executive – Holocaust Memorial Day Trust \nin conversation with writer/director David Ian Neville \nOlivia joined the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) as Chief Executive in February 2012. She has overseen the growth of Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) around the country and a hugely increased media presence. \nOlivia passionately believes that everyone\, regardless of age or background\, should know about the Holocaust\, Nazi persecution of other groups and more recent genocides\, and should set aside time to remember all those who suffered. She feels fortunate to be working for an organisation that enables people to do this\, that encourages people to consider their own responsibilities\, and that puts the life stories of those who were murdered and those who survived at the centre of commemorations. \nBefore joining HMDT\, Olivia worked in a number of other charities\, mainly in roles that involved political lobbying\, policy development and stakeholder engagement. Olivia lived in Glasgow for nearly eight years prior to relocating to London and is married to a Glaswegian. \nTo book: https://www.trybooking.co.uk/CCTR

SUMMARY:Nature Knows No Boundaries: Israeli-Palestinian Partnerships Creating Sustainable Communities Jared Goldfarb - 7.30pm - 9.30pm
DESCRIPTION:Since the late 19th century\, the Jewish and Arab populations have struggled to sustain their communities with the limited resources available leading to ongoing conflict. But in recent decades a number of initiatives have brought together Israelis and Palestinians to share knowledge\, innovation and their passion for the land\, to build sustainable solutions that benefit everyone. In this inspiring session\, we’ll focus on a few examples that not only serve as models for cooperation and problem-solving\, but also provide opportunities to forge cross-border relationships and pave a path toward peace.

SUMMARY:EJCC Learning for All - Rabbi Sybil Sheridan "The Gender of God" 7.30 pm - via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:EDINBURGH JEWISH CULTURAL CENTRE – Learning for All Event via Zoom \nWe know God has no gender\, but when we talk about God we have to use human terms\, and even in English\, it is impossible to do so in entirely gender neutral language. From the beginning of the Bible there is evidence that God language includes female imagery as well as male. Is this evidence of the great insight of our ancestors\, or relics of an ancient goddess worshipping culture? Either way\, these female descriptions can broaden our understanding of what God is for us today. \nSybil Sheridan is Rabbi of the Newcastle Reform Synagogue and director of the Lyons Learning Project. She is co-chair of the Liberal Reform Rabbinic and Cantorial Ethics Committee and teaches the Assembly of Rabbis online conversion course for the Reform Beit Din.
