SUMMARY:Tu B'Shevat Celebration - Forest Time for Adults - 1pm - 3pm
DESCRIPTION:Join us to bring in the new year for the trees with a Tu B’Shvat outdoor celebration of nature. We’ll be connecting with nature\, making\, tasting\, and celebrating the seasons with Jewish ideas and traditions. \nThis event is open to all community members. Previously events were run with Moishe House funding\, and so were for young adults. Events are now being run independently\, so everyone is invited to join. Children are welcome to come along\, although the programme is aimed at adults. We will be outdoors\, walking off paths\, standing\, with the option to sit on logs / ground tarps\, so please make sure you’re comfortable with that and be in touch with any questions regarding accessibility. Please don’t bring dogs as they may interfere with the activities. \nMy name is Sydney\, and I’m an artist and Jewish educator living in Glasgow. I specialize in outdoor learning and arts-based exploration. I also run events for and with many local Jewish organisations\, although this event is being run independently. \nWe will be celebrating the new year for the trees in a number of different ways\, which will depend on the mood of the group. We will be walking a bit\, getting to know the trees\, and perhaps making some art with them. We will also be looking at traditional Jewish texts and ideas relating to the holiday of Tu B’Shvat\, reflecting on what they mean to us\, and celebrating Tu B’Shvat as a community. \nDress for the weather. The tree cover protects from rain\, but you should dress warm and waterproof\, with shoes that can handle being off of the main paths. \nAs this event is being run independently\, your recommended donation will help cover the cost of supplies\, food\, etc. Please don’t let the donation be a barrier to you coming\, everyone is welcome regardless of whether you’re able to contribute or not. \nPlease be in touch with me at sydneyrswitzer@gmail.com with any further questions and to RSVP. The lecture will be given by Dr Waitman Wade Beorn\, Assistant Professor in History at Northumbria University. \n  \nLecture Overview \nThe Holocaust was a profoundly spatial event; it took place in specific locations and under specific circumstances\, rather than in a theoretical realm.  Yet\, we often take the places of the Holocaust for granted or as mere backdrops to the event itself.  By examining details of the Janowska camp\, located outside of Lviv in what is now Ukraine\, this lecture will show how looking at the space  of destruction — both metaphorically and literally — can further our understandings of some of the universal elements of the Holocaust. – Dr Waitman Wade Beorn. \n  \nThis lecture will take place in the Sir Charles Wilson Lecture Theatre\, and will also be streamed live for those wishing to view online. \nDoors Open: 6.30pm \nBook here.

Yet\, our future depends on us harmonising our activities with the workings of nature. We will discuss how this can be achieved and what shelter – if any – Jewish text and tradition can offer against this coming storm. There are no technical reasons that might prevent us changing. Our customary habits need to change and can. It is a matter of personal and political willpower\, and of equity and justice over the world. An optimistic image is staring us in the face.
