DESCRIPTION:The story of the Jewish ex-servicemen who fought against Oswald Mosley after World War II. In 1946 many Jewish soldiers returned to their homes in England imagining that they had fought and defeated the forces of fascism in Europe. Yet in London they found a revived fascist movement inspired by Sir Oswald Mosley and stirring up agitation against Jews and communists. Many felt that the government\, the police and even the Jewish Board of Deputies were ignoring the threat; so they had to take matters into their own hands\, by any means necessary. \nDaniel Sonabend holds degrees in Politics\, Intellectual History\, and Psychoanalytic Studies from the University of Nottingham\, University of Cambridge\, and Birkbeck College.

DESCRIPTION:A team from the Wiener Holocaust Library is returning to Glasgow to deliver another in-person event\, aimed at helping people learn how best to look after their family history. \nThis free\, one-day event will take place at the Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre. It offers the chance to learn about taking care of the precious documents\, photographs\, and items that represent your family histories. \nExperts from the Library will give practical tips on how best to look after your family archive\, with practical demonstrations of safe storage\, and advice on making digital copies to preserve your collection for future generations. \nAs well as this\, researchers will be on hand to provide guidance on how to carry out research family histories connected with the Holocaust. Staff members from SJAC and SJHC will also be presenting on how family history collections are used. \nAll are welcome\, and feel free to attend for all or only part of the session. DESCRIPTION:We are fortunate indeed to welcome to the Lit a former Ambassador of Israel to the USA and chief negotiator with Syria in the 1990s\, Itamar Rabinovich. \nFollowing his diplomatic postings\, between 1999 and 2007 Itamar Rabinovich was the president of Tel Aviv University where he is currently Professor Emeritus of Middle Eastern history. He is also distinguished global professor at New York University and a distinguished fellow at the Brookings Institution. \nProfessor Rabinovich is the author of a number of books on Syria\, Lebanon and peace making initiatives in the region. His biography of Yitzhak Rabin was published in the Jewish Lives series in 2017. His most recent book was published in 2023 by the Brookings Institution Press and is entitled ‘Middle Eastern Maze: Israel\, the Arabs and the Region 1948-2022. \nWho better to lead us through this maze at this time with an analysis of what’s really going on in Gaza\, Israel and Middle East? \nSince this talk is by Zoom\, please let us know by Friday as to whether you wish to attend and we shall give you details of the Zoom address for logging in on Sunday.
