Jordan seamlessly weaves together personal anecdotes with the epoch-making events of her time. Sharon Kivity is Ruth Jordan’s daughter. A pioneering journalist\, she was one of the first women to achieve a senior post at the BBC.

DESCRIPTION:As the levels of antisemitism increase in Glasgow and anti-Israel sentiment continues to grow\, mainly due to the numerous hate marches and demonstrations in the city centre\, Glasgow Friends of Israel continues its peace advocacy activities\, in particular at our weekly stall on Buchanan Street \nGFI will be commemorating our 10th anniversary in May this year and to mark this remarkable milestone\, we will be holding a conference at which we will look back over the years with some of our guests and speakers such as David Collier\, the investigative journalist who recently called out the BBC for screening a Gaza documentary narrated by the son of a Hamas official and Simon Barrett\, well known from his TV programme the Middle East Report \nWe will also hear from other guests\, and the complete programme will be shared with you over the next few weeks \nRegistration and tea/coffee will be served from 10:00am. The event will commence at 10:30 and finish at 16.00. \nA buffet lunch consisting of vegetarian soup and sandwiches\, tea and coffee\, will be served \nThere will be a Christian service of worship at 09.30  for those who wish to attend. \nAll ticket prices are subsidised with a standard ticket at £14.50 and an ‘early bird’ ticket available until 25 April at £11.50. DESCRIPTION:Edinburgh Jewish Cultural Centre (EJCC) seeks to celebrate and share Judaism and Jewish culture with people of all faiths and none\, Jews and non-Jews. Our successful “Learning for All” study sessions examining aspects of the Bible in relation to contemporary issues have been running since 2018. Until now\, while attracting a religiously diverse audience\, our speakers have all been Jewish and the themes based around the Jewish Torah. We are now launching a new “Interfaith Learning for All” programme\, selecting contemporary themes and examining different religious approaches to those themes\, featuring prominent presenters from the main Abrahamic faiths. \nOur first event will take place  at the City of Edinburgh Methodist Church\, Nicolson Square\, Edinburgh EH8 9BX (or online). The presenters\, Dr Ann Conway-Jones and Rabbi Margaret Jacobi\, will speak on the subject of “Reading the Bible: Meaning and Truth”: \nWhen we read the Bible\, we expect to find meaning\, maybe authoritative truth. Ann will explore how scholars\, Jews\, and Christians approach Scripture. They find different meanings because they ask different questions. Through Jewish texts\, Margaret will explore the importance of truth and the dangers of seeking absolute truth. What is truth\, how can we know it\, and what are its limits? \nDr Ann Conway-Jones \n \nAnn Conway-Jones is an honorary research fellow at The University of Birmingham and visiting scholar at Sarum College\, Salisbury. She specialises in early Jewish and Christian biblical interpretation\, combining her scholarship with over 20 years’ experience of teaching adults. \nRabbi Margaret Jacobi \n \nMargaret Jacobi is Rabbi Emerita of Birmingham Progressive Synagogue\, where she served for 29 years. She was active in a variety of interfaith organisations in Birmingham\, and worked with local churches to support refugees.  She has a PhD in Talmud.
