UK JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL IN GLASGOW – WHO’S AFRAID OF JEWISH HUMOUR?
- Country Germany Year 2022 Duration 72 min
From Hershel of Ostropol to Lenny Bruce, Ephraim Kishon to Mel Brooks, if there is one thing that unites all Jews, it is their self-deprecating, hilarious sense of humour, or so the myth goes. In this new documentary, filmmakers Jascha Hannover’s (Hollywood’s Second World War) and Arkadij Kahet’s (Masel Tov Cocktail) set out to explore the origins of Jewish humour, tracing the use of irony and satire back to the Bible. Featuring archival footage from around the globe and comedy experts from Europe and Israel, Who’s Afraid of Jewish Humour? celebrates a very long tradition of Jews being seriously and agonisingly funny.
